Set in the Kremnica Mountains near Bansk\u00e1 Bystrica, Harmaneck\u00e1 Cave is one of Slovakia\u2019s most important karst caves. It was discovered in 1932 by local resident Michal Bac\u00farik, although parts of it had previously been known to shepherds and foresters. The cave is renowned for its vast chambers and rich decoration, including dripstone formations, calcite deposits and distinctive white limestone features that have earned it the nickname \u2018White Cave\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Inside the cave are spectacular halls and chambers. The best known is the Hall of Pagodas, named after its distinctive pagoda-shaped stalagmites. Other highlights include the Treasury and the High Chamber, which impress visitors with their scale and intricate natural formations. The cave is home to several species of bats, with the greater horseshoe bat among the most common. Stable temperatures and high humidity provide suitable conditions for these protected animals. The cave is open to the public, with a guided route approximately 1,020 metres long.
